Korfball is a sport inspired by basketball that originated in the Netherlands. It is unique as a mixed-gender team sport, meaning that each team must always have an equal number of men and women on the court.
Each team consists of eight players—four women and four men. These players are divided into two groups: four attackers and four defenders, with each group made up of two women and two men.
The objective of the game is to score points by throwing the ball into one of the two baskets, which are positioned in the middle of each half of the playing field. Korfball is primarily a passing game: players are not allowed to run or dribble while holding the ball.
Another key feature of korfball is its limited physical contact. It is a non-contact sport in which men only defend against men and women only defend against women.
